When I was in 4th grade I won one of those necklaces that has best on one half and friends on the other that was in the shape of a heart at Chuckie Cheese. A week later I went to my grandparents house and gave my grandmother a part of the necklace.
My senior year of high school my grandma passed away. A sad time, but she had relocated to a better place. As we were going through her house my mom found her half of the necklace and brought it home to me. My gma had kept it all those years while I had lost mine. I felt ashamed but so touched that she had kept a cheap piece of metal just for me.
I had the half-a-heart hanging in my rear-view mirror for the longest time. Everytime I looked at it, I knew she was with and watching over me. One day my parents borrowed my car and mom was adjusting the necklace when it broke. I haven't seen the necklace since but know that very special lady knew I was ready to fly on my own.
